if remixes were pictures rather than music, the original artist would hand over his pencil and chalk, his canvas and his brush - and a fully completed picture - to another artist to let him/her work with this material. he'll never know before if there will be only slight changes or if the picture will be changed completely. remixe is a collection of seven pictures originally created by the spanish artist merak 19, redrawn by seven international artists. the fun is to find out what they did to...

after his widescreen release "falcon" phelios returns to tonAtom with an ambient e.p. in collaboration with the theremin artist christian stritzel he presents three stylistically different, droney, dreamlike tracks, preserving the atmosphere of three days in the summer of 2006 influenced by improvisation and mutual inspiration. the title of the e.p. JVOX is back at tonatom and strikes again with his very own distinctive style. just like on his first release his music is on the one hand dominated by very straight electronic arrangements with crystal clear outlines and not only a little twist towards rhythmic structures but actually a rather danceable foundation. but on the other hand there are vast areas of soundeffects and melodies which can be found e.g. in the opener grey alert. and this track is exactly *not* the usual ambient mishmash...

there are different ways of dealing with fall-/winterdepressions. we present probably one of the most pleasant ways: kazooo turns them into totally beautiful, dremlike downtemp-tracks to share them with us. though the tracks are meditative they stay away from "new age" magniloquence through kazooo's keen sense for beats even in colder climates. meandering but not monotonous, stress-reliefing but not drowsy. the positive proof that kazooo does master more than the dancefloor.

deep, dark and minimal, that is how sternenspringer describe the style of their e.p. "flux and analyse". "flux and analyse" is a conceptual album, which links life and mankind with the ongoing technological development. the sounds provide an individual drive to this main topic which are aimed at inspiring the audience to reflect on this. "where am I now?", "where are we now?", "and where will this journey take us ?". do we "flow" with...

a release packed with interesting ingredients: a spanish artist blends field recordings with speech samples and innovative electronics. this results in five tracks which give a thrilling insight into the spanish electronic musical scene. both tradition and innovation are combined on this e.p. by alejandro remeseiro a.ka. konsumprodukt. new sounds, for tonAtom as well... jubilee releases (this time the 20th) require something special, especially at tonAtom. and the task to reduce the playing time to 2 min made the artists give their best back on tenAtom [tonAtom.010].... ok, you've guessed it already.... 14 tonAtom artists deliver 14 tracks at a maximum playing time of 1:20 each - together on one release. another aljen-artwork and the accompanying superb poster (to be printed out at DIN-A2). one mini-track after the other to take you on a round trip through the...

a remarkable release by a remarkable new artist on tonAtom. apart from the clicks'n'cuts esthetics trickform, a sound artist from dresden, germany presents four tracks on his e.p. goomeda. four tracks one could describe (if this was politically correct nowadays) simply as beautiful. what we would never do off course. the basic elements are as simple as difficult: flowing harmonies, warm and dark sounds, driving and elaborate rhythms and on top fragile melodies. it is recommended to press the...

some artists work at both the musical and the design areas. so much the better if they do this in both areas on an equally high level. and this is the case with this release: aleksander "aljen" jensko, member of the tonAtom team and responsible for quite some cover art and the design elements of the tonAtom look-and-feel presents "vidda" as a successor to his first release "ikke drikkevann" [tonAtom.002] dark atmospheres, multi-layered sounds and every now and then...

the experimental intro and the pop- und classical elements in "isn't love a strange thing" form the borders of the rich stylistic fields of "seductive tales", a swiss one-man project. worthwhile listening - and again and again surprising.

max würden, who congenially illustrated thorsten nesch's short film "the human mule" (canada, 2002) with his score, compiled selected tracks from this soundtrack for this release. with added voice-overs from the movie he created an extraordinary musical experience made from ambient music and sound atmospheres. collective, experimental electronics from poland the artists collective palsecam formed by zenial presents an overview of their works. originating from the demo scene (with the essence being to exploit computers in such way that they create artistic visions and other various ways of expression) some of the most interesting polish electronic artists collaborate in this collective. with this release being the proof. sunlight and shadows ambient soundscapes combined with dodgy rhythm-structures, this could be the simple description of the soundworks on this e.p. - but it is not that easy. these tracks, created by the artist miro majewski a.k.a. env(itre) seem like scaffolds against sunsets to the listeners. and they capture them immediately. on tonAtom he presents five fascinating creations being a yet unpublished retrospective on his works of the past two years. after listening to this e.p. there will be people calling for rating systems even for instrumental music. the pictures conveyed by the title track "die loreley" are too explicit, as that it could be listened to without "parental guidance". too tempting the chants of the loreley and too brutal the end of her victims. sabine "elektr@" dirksen" presents on this exclusive tonAtom-release more than 15 minutes of exciting mindmovies. there is nothing more to say...

tenAtom - the jubilee tonAtom celebrates itself with the release of tenAtom, the tenth issue in a series of colorful mini-cds. 21 minutes playing time and 9 past releases demand for a compilation as a retrosprective of the last year. two minutes had to be enough for each artist and everyone delivered an exclusive miniature. a tour de force through the tonAtom styles. and for those, who have not yet discovered tonAtom, this jubilee is surely one of the best ways to jump on the train.

kAzooo presents five "clicked" tracks between couch-athmosphere and straight adrenaline (although it is actually a kAzooo-home-brew surrogate). be sure: the records title is its motto. enough words, go on: download, sit down and listen. and you might as well shake your tired leg (but before - please make sure, the dog is safe). no risks implied but lots of side effects - just feel good.

nq prefers to let music speak for itself. and this it does. textures made from clicks, noises and many other sounds appeal to the listener and give an idea, why nq refers to this music as "associative". four listening pearls from the sound research department are combined on nq and present 20 exclusive minutes of stimulating and positive entertainment.

after his limited tinbox-edition "lifeforms" (cd of the month in german "keyboards" magazine 06/02) matthias reinwarth aka xenoton releases this e.p. "interkosmos" on tonAtom. similar to his album "lifeforms" he blends several electronical styles like electro, ambient and minimal, but this time he characterizes a more "spacious" theme with his music. xenoton takes us on an interstellar journey and creates (just when flying by) a coexistence of...

burkhard kerlin a.k.a. store delivers "seltene erden" ("rare soils"), an exclusive release for tonAtom, and an impressive one: the 4 tracks vary between minimal and surprising easiness and with a total playing time of more than 20 minutes make use of the full capacity of the 3" e.p. no slight fare, but intelligent music, asking for an active audience. but nevertheless those tracks will capture anybody instantly and will leave them with a pleasent sense of well-being,...

still - and again even some time after my first contact with the music of carsten "alcyon" büttemeier on the third wellenform-release I keep on asking myself "what is it in his sound creations, that keeps touching me?" is it the tempting quality of sound and space ? phantastic creatures made of sound that whiz around me, almost touchable ? or is it the melodic background, like watercolors, that is giving the sound pearls its shine ? I close my eyes and let it get inside:...
